we have another date confirm in the dairy now. Its the N Gauge Madness show near Derby on weekend of 27/28th April 2012. Details can be found here? we will be offering Dale Yard, Gillsburgh MPD & Gillsburgh Brewery.
So it’s that time of year when we start planning what’s happenning next year, and whilst we’re still awful at updating these sites there has been lots going on.
More modules are under construction, both from within our group and by other folk, the crew from the Western Union NMRA group are also working on some modules, hopefully to debut at Exeter next year.
So what does the year have in store?
March 3rd sees our first ever modular meet, which will take place in Exeter – this will have a practical role in testing any new modules for the Exeter show in June, but will also be a good venue if anyone wants to come and chat about the concepts and work involved. If you’re working on a module we may also be able to include you – let us know!
June sees two shows in close succession involving the modules, on the 16th we are trekking up to the Midlands for TVNAM, (Trent Valley North American Modellers) with several modules.
The following weekend (23rd and 24th) we’re back at Exeter – with the 2011 show having been a success this year we plan to build on that, we should have even more modules involved, and we’re looking at having a couple of branches connecting back to RS Tower. The unique mix of frequent long trains past RS Tower and an ‘operations focussed’ network of lines operating specifically to move goods to the industries there is a rare combination in a UK model railway exhibition, you won’t see this kind of thing happenning too often due to logistics and personnel issues, so if you’re interested definately one for the diary!
And lastly for the moment (although there are other possibles) we will be travelling to Peterborough on the 20th/21st October with modules forming a branchline on RS Tower.
We’ve just returned from the Exeter Model Railway Show.
Eastbound:- Cab ride from Oakdale to the cement plant at RS East at the 2011 Exeter show, filmed on the our layout and modules. Modules in order are Oakdale, Gillsburgh (loco terminal), Dale Yard, Oak Creek (bridge), Emmery Crossing, Emmery, Depot curve, RSX (flat crossing), Alpha (start double track), Crosskeys (swing bridge), Bridge curve, Sterling Yard, farm and crossing curves, followed by the RS Tower layout, finishing up at the cement works. Power is a Genesis F45. The layout won the layout operators choice awards, so thanks to all our crew of helpers for making such a great show possible!
Westbound:- Cab ride from staging to the end of the line at Oakdale, shot on our modular model railroad setup at the Exeter show 2011. Starting in Staging we pass through the RS Tower layout, the interlocking there and the commercial bakery called Big Donut, we then swing left onto the modules – in order Crossing curve, farm curve, Sterling yard, bridge curve (start double track), Crosskeys swing bridge, Alpha (end double track), RSX (flat crossing), depot curve, Emmery and Emmery Crossing, Oak Creek (bridge), Dale Yard, Gillsburgh (engine terminal) and Oakdale.
Don’t forget that Neil, Mel and myself will be at Andover show this weekend with a small modular-based switching layout featuring Neil’s Dale Yard and Oakdale modules, we’ll be aiming for a 1950s/1960s look at this show so expect lots of classic motive power along with cabooses, come and say hi if you’re in the area.
We are please to announce that we will be at The Exeter Model Railway Show 4th & 5th June 2011. Details can be found here. This time we will be joined with the Main RS TOWER layout. the freemo modules will form a branch line 95ft long. please see proposed track plan & setup.
We will also have some new modules on show, Alpha, Swing Bridge, Sterling & more? we will also be running full length trains up to 30+ cars on the branch.
as soon as we have some more updates i’ll keep you posted.
On the 5th/6th June our Freemo modules will be in operation at the Exe MRS show at Exeter, see their website at http://www.exemrs.co.uk/ for more details.
We’re debuting several new modules this year including Gillsburgh by Ian Smith as well as established modules such as Neil Rogers’ Oakdale, they will form a 60′ long end-to-end run between a pair of small yards, frequent local passenger and freight moves should feature.
We’re a little bit short of staff this year so RS Tower and it’s big trains are not featuring as part of our display, but we’re planning lots of operation so it’s still well coming for a look and a chat about modules, DCC, operations or any of the other things we get up to.
And if anyone wants to come for a play let us know!
We’re working on a major showing with both RS Tower and a substantial Freemo presence combined for the 2011 Exeter show, it will be worth making a note in your diaries as we’ll be creating something that will be able to absorb lots of operators!
The 2x single to double track corners modules now have all track laid and electric’s finished. Both points are powered with Tortiose motors and powered & controlled by Wabbit. Both modules still have plenty of work need doing to them.
Corner 3 & 4 – Is going to have a Passenger Depot set in a rural scene.
Corner 5 & 6 – Trailer Park set in a rural scene (to be confirmed)
Gillsburgh Motive Power Depot has had its 1st testing session getting it reasdy for the Exeter Model railway’s Society’s Show on 5th & 6th June 2010. (more details to follow)
